Combat mommy guilt

The next time you're feeling like a horrible mother, just go to McDonalds and watch the ladies give their 6-8 month old babies french fries, complete with catsup.

The first time, I actually muttered "no way!" before I caught myself, and to my increased surprise, she just kept giving them to him the whole time I was there.

I think you're joking, but even so, being judgemental is a pretty poor substitute for unnecessary guilt. I'd take the guilt.

No, I don't believe she's joking at all, nor is it judgemental. There's no way babies that young should be getting junk food like that. It should be plain old fashioned common sense. My daughter was nearly 2 before she had her first french fry, and to this day gets them no more than twice a month, if that. Actually, she prefers the apple dippers, which is quite fine with me. I work 40 hours a week, drive an hour one way, and have a three year old and a 6 month old. So, as a busy working mom, I know full well the trap of just grabbing fast food rather than cook. I've done it. But I never have and never will give an infant junk food! My 6 month old will continue to get breast milk and Earth's Best organic baby food...good ole whole grains, fruits and veggies...remember those?

trust me, I feel the same way about giving kids the best we can and avoiding junk. that's great if you can do it, and if you choose to do it. you really are giving your kids a head start.

but I have little tolerance for elitism and being judgemental towards others who do not make the same choices you do for whatever reasons. there are no commandments in the Bible for "you shall not give your child fried potatoes before age 2", so, in my opinion, that is being judgemental.

not that I want to judge you for judging :-) I was just trying to point out that "combating mommy guilt" is a wonderful thing (it's one of the scourges of our sub-culture) but not if you substitute it with something potentially worse.
