Baby Oil

I've had a baby for over 11 months now & I still don't know what the purpose of baby oil is. I received 3 or 4 bottles at various showers and received yet another bottle today. All unopened. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is for?

that is so funny that you posted this! just 2 days ago in target i made the comment to my husband..."i don't know of anyone that puts baby oil on their kids". the only thing that i know that baby oil is used for is....removing eye make-up and laying out in the sun....or cooking yourself in the sun. GROSS!!

I have an answer to this question. Baby Oil is used to do a couple of things - one to cool down babies by cleaning out the pores (this does work for a person or baby in question who might have a problem sweating on their own) two it is used as a massaging oil for babies (a practice I have not heard many people doing) three it is suppose to keep the baby skin soft (from what I understand it only does so-so for the skin). There are some organic massaging oils that are better for babies than "Baby Oil" which is made from petroleum (yes, I looked up the word so I would spell right) products. I do know that cooling down with baby oil does work, because I have used it in that manner.

We used to use it in the army (training days) to clean up the showers, after washing the showers, we would put a little on a paper towel and rub it on the walls so that the walls would shine and I heard also it will prevent that black stuff from growing and it was the shower smell nice. Like you, I have received quite a number of bottles and they are just sitting there. once in a while i use it in my shower too

I got a few bottles when Abbie was born in 2004 and threw them away, unopened, when Daniel was born in 2007.

Thanks for the shower idea! I've heard of putting car wax on a shower to help it stay clean longer, but good grief, I'd rather wash a shower 4 times than wax it once. The baby oil sounds much easier.

I did try some when I had a particularly difficult diaper clean up one time, but I couldn't tell it helped.

I think she'll have a lifetime supply of eye makeup remover when she gets older.

And John Lee, I'm very proud of your correct spelling!
