Just go to sleep already
The biggest issue with Mandy is and always has been sleep.
We sleep trained her at 5 months and other than colds and teething, we've had a fairly peaceful time since. I would give her a bottle before laying her down, and even if she was still awake, she'd roll over to her tummy, I'd lay her blanket on her & she'd go on off to sleep. She had gotten so good, that I could carry her from her car seat, if she had fallen asleep, lay her in her crib & she would finish her nap.
Somehow, last week we suddenly and completely lost all of our sleep training. We are absolutely back to square one. The second the bottle is empty, she bolts up in my lap and wraps her arms around my neck. I lay her in her crib and she proceeds to scream angrily for as much as an hour and a half. I do the Ferber thing where I go check on her regularly.
This is aggravating enough at night, but during the day is worse. I'm already trapped at home for her regular naptime, usually from about 1 to 3. But now, that is extended by the hour she spends screaming. And today, I needed to run some errands, and knowing it wasn't wise, I set out to do it at 11:30. She fell asleep in the car. Instead of running my errands, I came back home & put her in her bed. So, she's currently in her crib, screaming and I'm wondering how this is going to go down. Will the 15 minutes of sleep she got in the car give her the stamina to not sleep at all? So now, instead of the two hours I'm required to be at home for her nap, am I now stuck at home for 5? From 11 & until she is thru with her nap?
And why? Why would a baby go from sleeping without struggle for many months to fighting it this hard? Obviously, one thought that comes to mind is teething, but giving her Motrin 30 minutes before sending her to bed does not help and she is not waking any during the night, which always happens when she is teething. I just don't think that's it.
Could she, at the tender age of 15 months, be trying to give up naps altogether? I'm supposed to have at least 2 more years of naps!
