Mandy's birthday
I bought Mandy's birthday present today and I'm totally excited about it!
It's the Fisher Price Learning Home. It's one wall with door. One side is the "outside" and the other is the "inside."
I had wanted a toy like they have at the mothers-day-out, but it turns out that it is a very old toy. It was a little garden with birds & vegetables, a door and a mailbox. Mandy spends the majority of her day in that toy. I could have gotten a used one on e-bay for a small fortune, but I decided instead to look for a new toy with similar features and that is how I came about this. I spent less money and this has way more bells and whistles.
I find myself looking at it & wishing I could take it out of the box, put it together & play with it! I hope she's as excited as I'm anticipating.

Tacky, needless and inappropriate

No, I did not do this.
No, I have not been able to get it out of the crevices.
Yes, her only pair of shoes is open-toed sandals.
No, I am not happy.

Howling at the sun
We were watching Tigger & Friends this weekend and the episode was the one where Tigger thought he was a Jag-u-lar. We reached the point where Tigger was howling at the sun (now, you're either smiling with understanding or thinking I've gotten my fingers off the home keys as I type) and Mike decides to howl too. Then all the sudden, Mandy throws her little head back & lets out a tiny howl!!! Oh my goodness, it's the cutest thing she's EVER done!!
So we're in Pick N Pay & the employee is trying to get a shoe on her when she decides to howl again. The lady thought she said ouch, and I was just laughing too hard to correct her. Besides, how do I explain that this 11 month old baby is howling at the sun?

Mandy has weird feet & I blame her father.
Mandy has more shoes than just about any baby of her age. My mother-in-law just keeps buying her shoes and a good friend sent me all her daughter's hand-me-downs - so there are dozens of shoes in her closet. And I still almost never put shoes on her because they are too hard to get on her feet - so hard that I finally decided something was wrong. Finally, my mother-in-law comes home with a wide pair that was a little easier - still, the fat on top of Mandy's feet poofed out the top of the Mary Jane style shoes. So I'm thinking she just has extra wide feet. Off we go in search of shoes yesterday and when J.C. Penney's measures her, they say she doesn't have particularly wide feet. Now I'm really confused - why can't I get shoes on her? We end up at Pick N Pay and I'm trying every shoe they have on her - we're in the middle of the floor with shoes all around us. I really wanted these little white & pink sneakers. I'd struggle to cram her foot in a size 3 wide, knowing that was the size she needed based on length, but then I'd put the size 4 wide on, just because I could actually get her foot in it. We tried half a dozen sandals, but again, her foot just wouldn't go in. Finally an employee decided to help and she went about trying to get a size 3 on her, stating that was the correct size, but she had no more luck than I. The problem is that she has an unusually high arch, a trait she shares with her father. Not only that, but when we do find a shoe that provides room for that, it is usually too large for her skinny little heal. We walked away with one single pair of sandals that were not the plain white I wanted (to go with everything) and no sneakers at all.
She did make LOTS of adoring older friends as I'd put some shoes on her & let her toddle around to see how she walked in them.
So, Jennifer, what size is Caroline's foot these days? You may have just hit pay dirt.

Baby Oil
I've had a baby for over 11 months now & I still don't know what the purpose of baby oil is. I received 3 or 4 bottles at various showers and received yet another bottle today. All unopened. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is for?

Get your t-shirts
Apparently, you can now order t-shirts with CNN headlines on them.
Why?
