Babies don't, but toddlers do
My ex-boss, for whom no question was too personal, frequently asked me if seeing babies made me want one of my own. I always answered "babies don't, but toddlers do." I love, love, love this stage that Mandy is in. I love that really simple things bring her so much joy and the energy she puts into things. I have a canvas basket that she will load with toys and push from one end of the house to the other, constantly looking behind her & telling me to c'mon. For whatever reason, this is great fun. If we could keep the water warm enough, a bath would be good for hours of entertainment. But she knows the end of the bath means pajamas (pronounced nammies) which means bedtime is near, so as soon as I get her dried off, she runs her naked little butt out to daddy hoping he will protect her from them. Finding a cat under covers makes her giggle every time. She has started showing affection and will wrap her arms around my neck and sometimes press her mouth on me in what I am sure is an attempt at a kiss.
I particularly love this stage in her verbal development. She understand most things I say, and can communicate what she wants to me fairly well, but it's the imperfections that are so adorable. An apple is pronounced ah-bul, and if she doesn't want to eat something, she declares it "hot." No amount of assuring her it is not will change her mind. And some things are just more fun when spoken at her loudest volume. Repeatedly. The other day, we were all at Walmart and she decided to start shouting the word apple - for like 20 minutes! AH-BUL. AH-BUL. Some grandmothers immediately recognized the word & asked her if she wanted an apple, and many other people laughed at her, but everyone within a 50 foot radius noticed her, that's for sure. She doesn't yet understand that "baby" is one of the words reserved for her, so she's constantly saying "c'mon, baby" or "here you go, baby" to us. Adorable stuff.
One of my friends strongly encouraged me to enjoy the baby stage. I'm not sure I did such a good job of that. And another told me every week with a newborn was easier. That really wasn't my experience. But now, right now, these are great times!

I had a great time with Abbie up until she hit three. She's still very entertaining and amazingly adorable most of the time, but with the three and four year olds comes the attitude. I naively thought that the attitude wouldn't come until the preteen years. I was sadly, sadly mistaken!! What I love about her age now are the stories that she makes up, the make believe stuff and hearing her talk to her imaginary friends. They're so creative and funny! Thank goodness the good far, far, far outweighs the bad. I have to remember that when we're having one of her "attitude" days! :-)
